Arndt Elementary Celebrates Fourth Annual Grand Opening of Arndtville Minitropolis® Program

(April 4, 2013) LAREDO, Texas – Students at Arndtville, a small city inside Arndt Elementary, celebrated the fourth annual grand opening of the Arndtville Minitropolis program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 28. During the event, Commerce Bank inducted new student “employees,” who recently received training and had the opportunity to meet Commerce Bank President and CEO Ignacio Urrabazo, Jr. Commerce Bank Officers and city officials joined Arndtville citizens to commemorate the occasion.
The Ardntville Minitropolis program is dedicated to providing students with a better foundation for understanding personal finance and adult responsibility, and is centered on student-run businesses including a Commerce Bank, Target store, IRS office, Kinder Café and a radio station.
“Arndtville Minitropolis program provides a motivating learning environment for students and reinforces the importance of financial literacy among our future generations,” Urrabazo said. “Commerce Bank is committed to empowering and educating today’s youth with relevant, practical experiences and we are proud to celebrate our fourth year of sponsoring Arndtville.”
The Minitropolis program has been in the Laredo community since 2009 and continues to expand the importance of financial literacy among the city’s future generations as the program develops each year.
Urrabazo, along with Mayor Raul Salinas spoke on the importance of financial education and commended the students and faculty at Arndt Elementary for their hard work and dedication to such an important program.
