Don Jose Gallego Elementary Celebrates Grand Opening Of Villa De Buenos Aires Minitropolis Program
Commerce Bank management and city officials join students for launch of fourth Minitropolis® program in Laredo
Students at Villa de Buenos Aires, a small city inside Don Jose Gallego Elementary, celebrated the launch and grand opening of their Minitropolis® program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 21. During the event, Commerce Bank inducted student “employees,” who recently received training and had the opportunity to meet Commerce Bank President and CEO Ignacio Urrabazo, Jr. Commerce Bank officers and city officials joined Villa de Buenos Aires citizens to commemorate the occasion.
The Minitropolis® program offers students a variety of real world positions depending on their individual interests and passions. The opening of Villa de Buenos Aires marks the fourth Minitropolis® program in Laredo. In addition to Commerce Bank in the Villa de Buenos Aires Minitropolis®, students have the opportunity to work for the post office, recycling center, a bookstore, energy conservation center and city council.
“The Minitropolis® program provides a stimulating learning environment for students and reinforces the importance of financial literacy among our future generations,” Urrabazo said. “Our employees at Commerce Bank are committed to empowering and educating today’s youth with practical, hands-on life lessons to students outside the classroom and looks forward to investing in Don Jose Gallego Elementary for many years to come.”
During the ceremony, Urrabazo, City Councilman Esteban Rangel, LISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson and LISD board members and staff, addressed the students, faculty and visitors and commended the students and faculty at Don Jose Gallego Elementary for their hard work and dedication to such an important program.
