IBC Bank's "Youth Parade Under the Stars" Float Wins Three Awards

Bank again serves as title sponsor of
 Washington’s Birthday Celebration youth parade

(Feb. 25, 2012) LAREDO, Texas – IBC Bank continued its support of the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) by serving again as the title sponsor of the IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars. First established in 1972, the parade was held February 21 and made its way through the downtown area with illuminated floats, dance groups and bands. More than 130 groups, comprised of local youth and schools, competed for special awards. The float was awarded Best Commercial Float and the Grand Marshal’s Award for Best Design of a Commercial Float. The float also participated in the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade Feb. 23 and was awarded the Grand Marshal’s Award.

“IBC is proud to support WBCA and to again sponsor the IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars which is a long standing family tradition in our community,” said IBC Bank President and CEO Dennis Nixon. “This parade is a festivity many look forward to since it focuses on our children. Months of planning, preparation, and hard work go into making this such a meaningful event for Laredo.”

IBC Bank’s float was titled “The Price of Freedom” and decorated in keeping with the official parade theme “Stars of Freedom.” The float honored the 200 brave Texan volunteers led by James Bowie, William Travis and famed frontiersman, Davy Crockett, who fought and died at the Battle of the Alamo. It was designed, constructed and decorated by IBC employees, who take great pride in expressing their dedication and creativity through the effort each year.

Each year, during January and February, the Laredo community joins together for events that are supported by the IBC Employee Advisory Board, which is comprised of dedicated employees that epitomize IBC Bank’s core philosophy of going above and beyond for customers and the community. IBC employees volunteer in other WBCA events including the UETA Jamboozie, WBCA Stars and Stripes Air Show Spectacular, Anheuser Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade, and the WBCA Jalapeño Festival. The Washington’s Birthday Celebration was founded in 1898 and attracting nearly 500,000 residents and visitors, is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States. The IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars serves as a prelude to the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade, and was led by Customs and Border Protection South Texas Commander Robert L. Harris as marshal.
