IBC Bank, City Officials Celebrate 3rd Anniversary of 'Kazenopolis'
Kazen Elementary celebrates the Minitropolis® Program with grand re-opening ceremony
The citizens of Kazenopolis, a minitropolis® at Kazen Elementary, celebrated the third anniversary of their program with a grand re-opening ceremony at the school on Friday, Feb. 7. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the IBC Bank branch inside Kazenopolis was held to celebrate with the new student “employees.” The fourth grade students that run the mini bank accompanied by IBC Bank management, City of Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Berin Salas and fellow Kazenopolis citizens to commemorate the occasion.
“IBC Bank believes financial literacy should be a key component in the education our children receive and is proud to play a key role in the success of Kazenopolis,” IBC Bank Chairman & CEO Nixon said. “We are excited to celebrate the third anniversary of this program, providing continued support and expertise to ensure many more generations of students at Kazen Elementary benefit from participating.”
During the ceremony, Nixon, along with other invited guests, addressed the students, faculty and visitors and commended the school for the continued success of the program. In addition to IBC Bank, Kazenopolis also features a city council, Border Patrol Station, post office, HEB, recycling center and other businesses that are run by students. First launched in September 2011, IBC Bank worked with school officials to develop the concept for Kazenopolis; this is the second minitropolis with an IBC branch in Laredo and the third of four Minitropolis® programs in Laredo.
