(May 28, 2013) CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - IBC Bank-Corpus Christi is celebrating its 19th year of helping the Corpus Christi chapter of the March of Dimes in its mission to help moms have healthy babies and fund research to fight birth defects. IBC Bank-Corpus Christi employees were energized to outdo the previous year’s donation to the March of Dimes and raised $13,941.42, exceeding the amount they pledged to raise in the 2013 campaign.
“Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death. In Texas, one in eight babies is born premature, and that’s just not acceptable,” IBC Bank-Corpus Christi President & CEO Harold Shockley, Jr. said. “IBC Bank’s ‘We Do More’ philosophy provides us the platform to collaborate with organizations that make a positive difference in the communities we serve. The March of Dimes annual campaign, March for Babies, gives us the chance to work together for stronger, healthier babies.”
“I can’t think of a more important cause than healthy babies. As a business leader, I know that preventing preterm birth can help our bottom line by lowering health care costs,” Shockley added.
Shockley is a board member of the Corpus Christi chapter of the March of Dimes and was ranked fifth among individual contributors in the 2012 campaign. IBC Bank-Corpus Christi was also recognized as a top participating team in 2012. The 2013 campaign concluded with its annual “March for Babies” walk held May 11. The walk is the largest annual fundraising event for the March of Dimes, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2013.
“IBC Bank knows the importance and value of supporting March of Dimes efforts for healthier moms and babies,” March of Dimes Corpus Christi Division CEO Rosaura De Los Santos said. “IBC Bank and especially its employees, realize that March for Babies helps build company morale, while raising funds that give babies a better chance for a healthy start in life. We couldn’t fulfill our mission without their support.”
