who is preserving Tejano culture

(Nov. 30, 2012) LAREDO, Texas – IBC Bank–Laredo Executive Vice President Jorge Verduzco was honored with a Tejano Achiever Award from Laredo LULAC Council No. 12 at the organization’s Tejano Achiever Awards Banquet October 25. Verduzco was recognized for his accomplishments and contributions in preserving and enhancing Tejano culture.
“We are proud to have one of our dedicated executives be the recipient of such a prestigious award that celebrates Tejano culture,” IBC Chairman and CEO Dennis Nixon said. “Jorge Verduzco’s dedication to bettering the community is inspiring and rings true with our ‘Hacemos Más’ philosophy.”
Since joining IBC Bank in 1981, Verduzco has been devoted to international business development, market research, government relations, marketing and advertising, and sales management on behalf of IBC Bank-Laredo and International Bancshares Corporation. An accomplished businessman, Verduzco is deeply dedicated to the Laredo and South Texas community and has been involved in many organizations, including chairman of the Texas-Mexico Advisory Board; member of the Policy Board of the Texas Department of Commerce, where he served as chairman of Texans for NAFTA; a founding member of the Border Trade Alliance and the Association of South Texas Communities; board member of the Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce where he co-chaired the International Trade Committee; and a member of a select committee for the Texas Department of Transportation, on which he helped make Laredo and South Texas primary routes for NAFTA countries, connecting Texas ports to international trade.
The Tejano Achiever Awards Banquet is an official fundraising program for Laredo LULAC Council No. 12 that recognizes accomplishments and contributions made by outstanding personalities, who are respected by the community as they enhance and preserve Tejano culture, values and educational opportunities for everyone. The banquet also allows the organization to award scholarships to outstanding high school students and to promote activities that serve the less fortunate citizens of the Laredo and South Texas community.
