IBC Bank Austin President and CEO Honored by American Youthworks

Bob Barnes recognized with “Cliffy Award” for tremendous philanthropic efforts

IBC Bank-Austin President and CEO Bob Barnes was honored as this year’s recipient of the “Cliffy Award” from American YouthWorks November 7 at the “Help Clifford Help Kids” benefit at the Moody Theater. This annual recognition, created in 2001 by Clifford Antone, a dedicated philanthropist committed to raising awareness of at-risk youth, was awarded to Barnes for his outstanding philanthropic legacy in the Austin community and commitment as a tireless advocate of American YouthWorks.

“Central Texas is lucky to have Bob Barnes as a leader in our community,” American YouthWorks CEO Parc Smith said. “He understands the importance of providing education and job skills training to prepare young people for their critical role in the future of our local economy. American YouthWorks is pleased to honor Bob with the Cliffy Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Legacy.”

Barnes, a dedicated supporter of American YouthWorks and its mission for the past 3 years, most recently spearheaded the “Million Nickels” campaign, which consisted of IBC Bank-Austin branches working together to host contests that resulted in them raising more than $2,000 through donations and bank matching. In addition, the bank annually donates $12,000 in support of American YouthWorks.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to dedicate my time to an organization that places such high value on giving back to the youth in our community,” Barnes said. “YouthWorks is something I feel strongly about, so I am incredibly honored and thankful for their recognition.”

Following in IBC Bank’s “We Do More” philosophy, Barnes generously gives back to his community. In addition to his support of American YouthWorks, he is a proud champion of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and participates in the Labor Day Telethon each year, contributing corporate funds to research and leading IBC Bank volunteers to answer phones and collect donations. Barnes provides wishes through the bank to the Make-A-Wish Foundation each year and tirelessly supports Amigos de las Americas, an organization dedicated to building young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences.

Barnes is an established leader in the Texas banking industry with more than 30 years of experience. As president and CEO of IBC–Austin, Barnes oversees and directs the bank’s activities throughout the entire Austin region. He also serves as president of IBC First Equity, IBC’s mortgage division, which specializes in home equity lending and second lien mortgages. As part of his leadership role, Barnes is spearheading IBC’s expansion in the greater Austin area organically through new branch construction and community reinvestment.
