IBC Bank Employees Donate Time & Expertise to Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Employees are providing free income tax
filing assistance to Eagle Pass residents
(February 25, 2013) EAGLE PASS, Texas – IBC Bank employees are volunteering their time and expertise this year to help the residents of Eagle Pass by participating in the local chapter of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through April 15, 2013. Founded by the Internal Revenue Service, the program is designed to help people with low- and moderate-level incomes to receive tax return preparation assistance free of charge. The community volunteers are trained to identify income tax credits for which an individual is eligible and to help maximize eligibility for tax refunds.
“IBC Bank is committed to going above and beyond to help the communities we serve. By volunteering in the VITA program, we are directly impacting the financial well-being of our city,” said IBC Bank-Eagle Pass President & CEO Héctor J. Cerna. “We are thankful and proud of all of our employee volunteers because they’re providing tangible help to Eagle Pass residents.”
IBC Bank has been an active participant in the VITA program for the past six years and has provided volunteers and financial resources to the VITA sites in Maverick County. All volunteers from area organizations, including those from IBC Bank, are certified after receiving 16 hours of training. This year, IBC employees will be volunteering at the Texas Workforce Commission located on 1200 Ferry Street. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
For more information on the VITA program and to locate the nearest VITA site, call 1-800-829-1040 or visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov to see a list of approved identification forms and other necessary items to bring to a counseling session.
