IBC Bank Executive Vice President Honored By NASBITE International

Advancing International Trade Award
(May 1, 2013) LAREDO, Texas - IBC Bank Executive Vice President Gerald Schwebel was recognized as the recipient of the 2013 National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE International) “Advancing International Trade Award” for the State of Texas on Friday, April 12 at the 26th Annual NASBITE International Conference in Albuquerque. NASBITE International is an educational and professional association established in 1988. The organization promotes international business practice, education and training through its annual conference. The Advancing International Trade Award recognizes the dedication and service of those who are advancing international trade in each state, as well as Canada and Mexico.
“Because it is vital to our nation’s growth, IBC Bank is firmly committed to promoting international trade and addressing critical issues that impact our trade relations with Mexico and Canada,” Schwebel said. “I am humbled to receive the Advancing International Trade Award for the state of Texas and thankful for IBC Bank’s support in my role.”
Schwebel is widely regarded as one of America’s leading experts on international trade and finance. He frequently represents IBC and its customers in consultation with top government and business leaders in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. His knowledge and unique overview have resulted in his being called upon on numerous occasions to testify before Congress on issues regarding U.S/Mexico trade, including the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); U.S.-Mexico transportation and logistics; international finance; and most recently, U.S. immigration reform. Schwebel’s opinions and perspectives have also been featured in some of the major business journals and magazines in the U.S. and Mexico on various topics related to international trade, economics and banking.
Schwebel has distinguished himself through various leadership roles including as current president of the North American Strategy for Competitiveness (NASCO), a tri-national trade coalition that advocates for competitiveness through logistics, infrastructure, security and a skilled workforce; 1993 National Chairman of the Border Trade Alliance (BTA); Bi-National Director of the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce; and Member of the Transportation, Logistics and Infrastructure Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Schwebel has been president of the Laredo Development Foundation and has served on the Laredo Chamber of Commerce and International Good Neighbor Council. His extensive service and leadership have earned him numerous awards and recognitions in both the U.S. and Mexico.
Schwebel joined IBC Bank in1988 as first vice president of business and industrial development. He was promoted to executive vice president and head of IBC’s International Division in 1996.
