(Jan. 24, 2013) San Antonio, Texas – IBC Bank-San Antonio’s downtown branch at 130 E. Travis Street was the setting for a reception hosted by the bank Jan. 23 to welcome and congratulate newly appointed Secretary of State John Steen. IBC Bank Senior Vice President Eddie Aldrete, IBC Bank-San Antonio Chairman of the Board Nelson Wolff, and First Lady Anita Perry opened the reception. Secretary Steen said working with Gov. Perry to build on the strong Texas economy will be among his top priorities as secretary of state.
“I’m excited and humbled by Governor Perry’s appointment as secretary of state,” said Secretary Steen. “I look forward to working with Governor Perry—and IBC Bank—to keep the Texas economy the strongest in the nation so any Texan who wants it, has the opportunity to succeed.”
Secretary Steen praised IBC Bank for the company’s strong corporate citizenship in Texas and for sharing its success in the communities the bank serves, through civic and charitable involvement.
“We share Secretary Steen’s view that it is a great privilege to serve the people of Texas,” said International Bancshares Corporation Chairman Dennis Nixon. “We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber taking office at a time of such incredible opportunity for our state.”
Gov. Perry appointed Secretary Steen to the office Nov. 23, 2012 as the 108th Texas secretary of state. Secretary Steen most recently served as a commissioner of the Texas Department of Public Safety. A San Antonio native, Secretary Steen is following in the footsteps of another San Antonian, Hope Andrade. Steen said Andrade set a shining example of what a secretary of state should be and that he will work hard to do the same. Andrade is the fourth longest serving secretary of state.
The reception was co-hosted by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
