New year, new look: IBC Bank rejuvenates downtown landscape

(February 6, 2023) LAREDO, Texas - Since its inception in 1966, IBC has been at the helm of providing Laredo and all its customers the best service while supporting the community's needs.  That is why they are now refurbishing the iconic IBC headquarters building housing its executive offices,  the structure where it all began 57 years ago at 1200 San Bernardo Avenue.

"The Central business district (CBD) holds a special place in the heart of IBC. The CBD is critically important to the future of any city and especially Laredo. As a leadership business, IBC has always led the way and is extremely proud of our hometown. Because we want to encourage investment in the CBD, our next investment in Laredo is now underway," stated Dennis E. Nixon, CEO and Chairman of the Board for IBC.  "We believe in Laredo and are proud to be a vital part of this border city's development, growth, and success. We pride ourselves on being a hometown bank, this is why we call Laredo home for our corporate offices," he added.

Nixon has been the leading force for over 48 years focused on helping every IBC customer become   successful. Since his arrival at IBC, the original one-story structure built in the late 1960's has undergone major construction, including in the late 70's when a large basement was built out and two floors in the 80's that included community suites and conference rooms. Now the time has come to bring a fresh, modern look to the building and to the downtown landscape by creating a 21st century exterior.

After completion of the project, Laredoans will see a building with a more contemporary look including distinct, state-of-the-art lighting, adding ambiance to the evening skyline.  A neo-classical design will showcase the four-story building that houses the corporate executive offices, operations, and marketing for IBC.  All-Star Stucco and Development is the contractor heading the transformation. Weather permitting, the project should be complete by mid-year.

City of Laredo Councilwoman Alyssa Cigarroa, representing the downtown district adds, "IBC  always leads in a big way. This renovation project serves to stimulate and motivate a feeling of renewal and rejuvenation for the historic district. I am very proud of their focus and dedication to enhancing the quality of life in Laredo in such a magnificent manner. They are truly doing more to promote downtown revitalization through this endeavor."
